We have added a 35-metre submerged arc welding machine to our equipment. Long linear seams, machinery and crane booms, and vehicle and machine chassis are welded continuously, with repeatable quality and a qualified WPS.
In submerged arc welding the arc burns beneath a layer of granular flux. High deposition, deep penetration and a smooth bead mean fewer passes and fewer stop-start points than MAG on long, heavy-section joints.
Girders, box sections, plate butt joints and tank shells: the 35 m machine length lets long seams be welded in one set-up at constant speed and parameters. Fewer start and stop points mean fewer defects.
Corner and butt seams on the box sections of excavator, crane and aerial platform booms. Booms under fatigue loading get continuous, uniform seams with a controlled welding sequence and distortion monitoring.
Long side members and I/box-section carriers for trailers, semi-trailers, agricultural and construction machinery chassis. Straightness and dimensional repeatability over the full length come first.

Suitability for your material, thickness and joint type is assessed from your drawing.
Drawing, material and quality class are reviewed; the welding engineer selects the WPS and welding sequence.
Joint preparation, gap and fixturing are checked; long parts are tacked to the straightness tolerance.
The seam is welded continuously on the 35 m line to the WPS parameters; current, voltage and speed are recorded.
Visual inspection and required NDT are carried out; dimensional report, material certificates and weld records ship with the part.
Submerged arc welding (SAW, ISO 4063-121) is an automated arc process in which the arc between a continuously fed wire and the workpiece burns beneath granular flux. The flux shields the arc and weld pool and gives high deposition and deep penetration.
Long parts can be welded in a single set-up. Speed and parameters stay constant along the seam, so quality is repeatable, stop-start points and their defect risk drop, and repositioning time is cut.
Medium and heavy steel parts with long, straight seams that can be welded flat (PA) or as horizontal fillets (PB): booms, chassis members, welded I-girders, box columns, plate butt joints and tank shells. MAG is the better choice for very short seams and thin sheet.
Yes. We weld booms, chassis and long-seam parts for your products to your drawings. Parts can come in for welding only, or be quoted as complete fabrication including cutting, bending, welding and NDT.
A drawing (PDF/DXF/STEP), material grade and thickness, seam lengths, quantity and, if any, the quality class (EN 1090 EXC, EN ISO 5817) and NDT requirements.
Send us the drawing for your boom, chassis or linear seam job and we will prepare a submerged arc welding quote.
