Welded manufacturing is the production method in which metal parts are permanently joined using heat and/or pressure, usually with a filler material, to form a final product or structure. Chassis, pressure vessels, structural steel, defense platforms and agricultural machinery are produced using welded manufacturing. In Konya and across Türkiye’s industrial hubs, welded manufacturing is a discipline where engineering design, material selection, production process and quality control are fully integrated.

This article examines the core steps of welded manufacturing, the most common welding processes, quality requirements and the EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 1090 standards from a hands-on perspective.

1. Core Steps of Welded Manufacturing

A welded manufacturing project is far more than the welding step alone. From design inputs to final delivery, multiple stages are managed under tight discipline.

  • Engineering design: Load analysis, material selection, weld details and tolerances are defined.
  • Material procurement: Steel plate, sections and consumables with EN 10204 3.1 certificates are sourced.
  • Cutting and forming: Laser/plasma cutting, press brake forming and machining.
  • Pre-weld preparation: Joint preparation, cleaning, preheating and tacking.
  • Welding: Performed by qualified welders following an approved WPS.
  • Inspection: Visual, PT, MT, UT or RT NDT.
  • Surface finishing & shipment: Blasting, painting or galvanizing followed by delivery.

2. Common Welding Processes

The selected method depends on material, thickness, production volume and quality expectations.

ProcessISO No.Typical Use
MIG/MAG (GMAW)135/138Structural steel, chassis, general fabrication
FCAW136Heavy sections, site welding
TIG (GTAW)141Stainless, aluminum, root passes
SMAW111Repairs, isolated points
SAW121Heavy plate, pressure vessels, pipes

3. Quality and Traceability Standards

In professional welded manufacturing, every weld must be traceable. EN ISO 3834-2 requires assigning a welding coordinator, managing WPS/WPQR, controlled consumable storage and inspection records. For structural steel, EN 1090-2 applies and quality is set per EXC1–EXC4 execution classes.

Practical note: All ArmaWeld projects are executed under EN ISO 3834-2 with a welding engineer in coordination, and digital traceability links every weld to the welder ID and consumable batch.

4. Welded Manufacturing in Konya and ArmaWeld

Konya hosts one of Türkiye’s strongest metalworking and machinery ecosystems. The city’s welded manufacturing capacity for agricultural machinery, automotive sub-industry, defense and energy is increasing every year. ArmaWeld brings engineering, welded manufacturing, NDT inspection and surface finishing under one roof, offering subcontract and turn-key solutions. ArmaWeld delivers up to EN 1090 EXC3 quality on high-strength steels, stainless alloys, aluminum and special armor steels with certified welders.
