Robotic welding is one of the most important investments for serial-production welded manufacturing companies in terms of productivity, quality repeatability and cost competitiveness. ArmaWeld runs serial production with 6-axis industrial robots in Konya. This article covers the benefits of robotic welding, suitable part geometries and programming workflows.
1. Benefits of Robotic Welding
- Repeatability: identical welds across all parts
- Productivity: 3–5× welding time per operator
- Quality: reduced spatter, finish defects and geometry deviation
- Traceability: current, voltage and travel speed recorded automatically
- OHS: operator is not directly exposed to arc, fume or spatter
2. Which Parts Suit Robotic Welding?
Not all parts are good candidates. The following criteria deliver economic value:
- Volume: 100+ parts/month serial
- Tolerances: laser-cut precision (±0.2–0.5 mm)
- Stable geometry: standard positions over complex 3D paths
- Access: enough clearance for the torch
3. Programming and Commissioning
| Step | Lead Time |
|---|---|
| Fixture design | 1–2 weeks |
| Robot programming | 2–5 days |
| Parameter optimization | 1–3 days |
| First Article Inspection (FAI) | 1 day |
Modern robots can correct the path before welding using laser or contact sensors, compensating for sheet thickness or cutting tolerance deviations.
4. ArmaWeld Robotic Welding Cells
ArmaWeld’s Konya facility includes two 6-axis robotic welding cells. Synergic MIG/MAG power sources and servo torches handle both thin sheet and medium-thickness parts. Tractor and combine sub-frames, defense substructure components and electrical cabinets run through the robotic line. Per customer requirement, all robotic welds are subject to 100% VT and sampled NDT testing.
