Steel structure manufacturing covers the production of primary load-bearing systems for industrial buildings, warehouses, bridges, factory roofs and special structures. When every step from design to erection is executed in accordance with EN 1090, the best balance of safety and cost is achieved. This article covers the core steps of structural steel fabrication and the solutions ArmaWeld delivers from Konya.
1. Design and Detailing
In modern steel projects, engineering is performed with 3D BIM tools. Tekla Structures, IDEA StatiCa and SDS/2 automatically generate connection details, bolt lists and shop drawings. ArmaWeld can generate detail drawings from customer-supplied IFC or DWG files and works in coordination with structural design offices.
2. Shop Fabrication
Per EN 1090-2, shop processes include cutting, drilling, forming, assembly and welding. The higher the execution class (EXC), the tighter the tolerance, traceability and inspection requirements.
| EXC Class | Typical Structure | NDT Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| EXC1 | Agricultural building, small warehouse | VT only |
| EXC2 | Industrial building | VT + 5–10% NDT |
| EXC3 | Bridges, crane runways | VT + 10–20% NDT |
| EXC4 | Special-risk structures | VT + 100% NDT |
3. Welding and Quality
The most common welding processes for structural steel are MAG (135), FCAW (136) and SAW (121). For each process, an approved WPS and PQR record is maintained. Welders are qualified under EN ISO 9606-1, with daily monitoring of shop temperature and consumable storage. At ArmaWeld, every weld is recorded digitally and linked to a unique welder ID.
4. Site Erection and Delivery
Shop-fabricated modules are shipped to site and joined with bolted or welded connections. Site welds require wind shielding, preheating and visual inspection. ArmaWeld can organize site erection crews on customer demand and coordinates blasting, painting and galvanizing. Konya-based production delivers competitive lead times across Türkiye and export markets.
